President Xi Jinping and his US counterpart Joe Biden on Monday exchanged congratulations to mark the anniversary of diplomatic ties, state media said.

"On 1 January, President Xi Jinping and US President Joe Biden exchanged congratulatory messages on the 45th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries," CCTV reported.

Xinhua News Agency quoted Xi as saying history has already proven that mutual respect, peaceful coexistence and win-win cooperation are the right way for China and the United States to get along with each other, and that this should be the direction of joint efforts in the new era.
