Some Hong Kong travellers stranded at Tokyo's Haneda Airport for hours on Wednesday praised Japanese authorities for their handling of the situation following a rare collision between two planes, saying everything had been well organised.

A Japan Airlines (JAL) plane collided with a coast guard plane on the runway on Tuesday, killing five people on the coast guard plane, while the nearly 400 passengers - including 14 people from Hong Kong - on the JAL flight narrowly escaped a raging inferno which engulfed their Airbus A350.

In the rare collision, five people from the coast guard plane had died,

An HK Express flight from Haneda Airport to Hong Kong was delayed by four hours because of the accident. On their return to the SAR, passengers praised the Haneda Airport's arrangements.

A woman surnamed Ling said people had remained calm although the airport was crowded.

"There were long queues, but everyone was relaxed while waiting as no one wanted the accident to happen," she said.

Another passenger surnamed Chan described the atmosphere as peaceful.

"The airport provided blankets and water to stranded travellers. The arrangements were quite good," he said.

HK Express said it had rescheduled five flights between Hong Kong and Haneda Airport from Tuesday to Wednesday.
