A 30-year-old man has died after taking part in Sunday’s Standard Chartered Hong Kong Marathon.
Police said the runner collapsed on the platform of the Tin Hau MTR station at around 1.15pm and died after being sent to Ruttonjee Hospital.
The Hong Kong, China Association of Athletics Affiliates said it is saddened by the incident and expressed its condolences to the man's family.
It reminded runners to pay attention to their physical conditions and take appropriate post-race recovery measures.
Separately, 842 people were injured during the races, with at least 39 of them being sent to hospital.
One of them was a 10km male runner who collapsed before reaching the finish line.
The chief of medical services for the event, Lam Kin-kwan, said the man’s heart stopped beating at one point, but his condition improved upon arrival at the hospital.
He added that many of the other injured runners suffered scrapes, sprains and muscle cramps.
