Hong Kong experienced chilly weather on Tuesday, with temperatures in the city hovering around six degrees Celsius and the mercury dipping below zero at the highest peak.
Ice formed on Tai Mo Shan, which reached a low of minus 2.4 degrees Celsius.
The government urged the public not to go up the hill before closing all lanes of Tai Mo Shan Road for public safety.
According to the Observatory, an intense winter monsoon and a wide band of clouds and rain sweeping across the region have affected Hong Kong's weather.
“Members of the public, motorists and cyclists should be aware of the danger on slippery roads,” it said in a special warning.
“As there will be rain and the wind chill effect will be significant, the temperature felt by body will be lower than the actual air temperature.”
The forecaster said temperatures would remain around seven degrees Celsius on Tuesday, with cloudy skies and a few showers.
The cold spell is expected to last until at least Thursday morning.
