The MTR announced on Wednesday that it will deploy extra staff to assist passengers at West Kowloon high-speed rail station as it is expecting more travellers ahead of the Lunar New Year holidays.

It will improve announcements and signage at the station, as well as remind passengers through various channels about buying tickets and travel tips.

The railway is also introducing two new types of high-speed rail tickets with discounted fares for multiple journeys to one of ten designated stations in Guangdong.

The "20-ride ticket" and "30-day ticket" offer discounts ranging from about four percent to 36 percent, depending on the ticket type, destination, seat class and actual usage.

"The introduction of the two multi-ride tickets makes travelling easier for regular travellers," said Jeny Yeung, MTR's Managing Director for Hong Kong Transport Services.

"We are also working closely with mainland railway authorities, with a plan to extend the Futian same-day flexi-trip arrangement to Shenzhenbei station in March, making travel more convenient for even more passengers."

Passengers will be able to purchase tickets on the 12306 platform from January 25.
