Hong Kong shares opened more than one percent lower on Friday as investors fret over the state of the mainland economy, while trading was thin ahead of a long weekend to mark Lunar New Year.

The Hang Seng Index fell 1.06 percent, or 168.77 points, to 15,709.30.
