There were mixed views on Friday on the announcement that people who bought tickets for Inter Miami's match at the weekend will be offered 50 percent refunds, following anger that Lionel Messi didn't play.

The Consumer Council, which received hundreds of complaints about the matter, said the partial refund plan was the best arrangement that could be agreed after talks between all parties.

Federation of Trade Unions lawmaker Bill Tang said the majority of fans he had spoken to accepted the offer.

"If the ticket holder does not accept the refund proposal, the only way is legal action. After considering the time cost and the risk of judicial procedure, a majority of the complainants accept the proposal," he told RTHK.

Legislator Johnny Ng, who was at the game, said it was a "wise move" for the organisers to offer a partial refund. He said they have fulfilled their responsibility and he accepts the proposal.

"If the organisers do nothing, we will be very angry about that. They showed us their balance sheet. Even though they have a big loss, they will still refund 50 percent of the price. I think it is fair," he said.

But Executive Council convenor Regina Ip said even if people got all of their money back, some would still be disappointed. She added, however, that a 50 percent refund is better than nothing.

DAB lawmaker Vincent Cheng said he hoped organisers could offer more, especially for fans who came for the match from the mainland or overseas.

Organisers said details of the refund process would be announced by the middle of March.
