Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development Algernon Yau on Thursday said RTHK will continue its efforts to tell the good stories of China and Hong Kong.

At a Lunar New Year event organised by RTHK, Yau said the broadcaster will strengthen cooperation with the mainland to foster global connectivity and outreach.

“This year commemorates the 75th national anniversary. I am confident that RTHK will ascend and radiate. By fortifying its multimedia broadcasting capabilities across diverse languages, RTHK will tell the good stories of the nation and Hong Kong to a wide-ranging audience, and promote Hong Kong's unique strengths. RTHK will also enhance its cooperation and collaboration with mainland organisations to connect with the world,” Yau said.

Director of Broadcasting Eddie Cheung said RTHK is committed to connecting with the globe, noting that an upcoming programme titled "Hello Jakarta! Hello Hong Kong!" which is jointly produced with Radio Republik Indonesia will be aired in Indonesia and the SAR next month.

"Indonesia is the 10th largest economy in the world and is one of the member countries under the Belt and Road initiative. Such cooperation can promote the people-to-people links outlined in the Belt and Road Initiative," he said.

Cheung also said RTHK will launch AI sign language narrative services within this year, adding that the broadcaster has signed a memorandum with Cyberport and the Chinese University of Hong Kong to develop the technology.
