A former Chinese ambassador to Pakistan, Nong Rong, has been named a deputy director of the Hong Kong and Macau Affairs Office (HKMAO).

Nong is part of the delegation led by the director of the office, Xia Baolong, on a week-long inspection trip to the SAR.

A native of Guangxi, Nong, 56, previously served as mayor of Guigang.

He also worked in the Foreign Ministry.
