A signalling problem caused disruption to MTR services on three lines during Thursday morning's rush hour, according to the railway company.

The MTR Corporation announced shortly after 8.30am that the signalling system for the Island, Tsuen Wan and Kwun Tong lines "wasn't operating smoothly" and that passengers were forced to wait longer than usual for trains to arrive.

After around two hours, train services gradually returned to normal but repair works were ongoing, the corporation said.

It said after some four hours that the repair work was finished.

The Transport and Logistics Bureau said it's concerned about the incident and has demanded that the rail firm submit a report.
