Customs officers said they arrested a man on Wednesday on suspicion of laundering HK$16 million in drugs money.

Officers said they made the arrest after spotting suspicious transactions while looking into a HK$200 million dollar drug trafficking case from last August.

The 36-year-old man has been released on bail pending further investigations.

Officers said they busted an attempt to bring in HK$200 million worth of drugs by sea last year.

After investigating a suspect in connection to that case, customs said they found transactions between February 2022 and June 2023 that were thought to involve crime proceeds.

Officers on Wednesday searched the home of the 36-year-old suspect in Chai Wan and two of his companies in Mong Kok and To Kwa Wan, where two cellphones and various bank documents were seized for investigation.

Officers added that an investigation is ongoing and they did not rule out further arrests.
