This year's Hong Kong Sevens is on track to be a sell-out, organisers said on Friday, as the tournament prepares to bid farewell to its home for three decades ahead of a venue move.

They said 34,000 three-day passes have been sold, accounting for more than 85 percent of the general admission tickets available.

Organisers also said the occasion had "captured renewed interest amongst international visitors," with ticket purchases from overseas returning to 42 percent of total sales.

The figure is up from 23 percent last year, and three percent during the Covid pandemic in 2022.

“With a month to go and only a few thousand tickets left, we believe that the tournament is on track to return to its pre-pandemic sell out status and are confident to bid the Stadium a good farewell with another weekend of Hong Kong Sevens magic," said Robbie McRobbie, the CEO of Hong Kong China Rugby.

“A return to full house also highlights Hong Kong's return as one of Asia's top tourism and events destinations, a position that the Sevens has contributed to throughout the decades."

If this year's sevens is sold out, it'll be the first time the tournament has been fully attended since the pandemic.

The event – set to take place from April 5 to 7 – marks the last time it will be held at the iconic Hong Kong Stadium, its home for the past 30 years.

It will move to the Kai Tak Sports Park in 2025.
