A spokesman for the annual session of China's top advisory body said on Sunday that this year's meeting is of great significance, as he noted that the country's long-term economic development will be further strengthened.

The annual session of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) will open in Beijing on Monday at 3pm, with its chairman Wang Huning delivering a work report.

It will last six days and conclude on March 10.

Liu Jieyi, spokesman for the session, stressed the importance of the upcoming meeting.

“This year marks the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China and the founding of the CPPCC. The success of this year's session is of great importance,” he said.

“The CPPCC will carry on its fine tradition, uphold its political responsibilities, focus on the central and overall tasks, enhance theoretical and political guidance, vigorously make recommendations, build consensus, strengthen capacity building and open up new prospects for its work in the new era.”

In response to the concerns that China's economic recovery faces challenges, Liu pointed out that many CPPCC members share the view that domestic consumption remains strong and is a powerful driving force for economic development.

He added that the nation has a good foundation and favourable conditions to promote high-quality development.

Liu added that some 3,000 local and international journalists have registered to cover the "two sessions".
