Chief Executive John Lee departed for Beijing on Monday morning to attend the opening ceremony of the second annual session of the 14th National People's Congress on Tuesday.
Lee arrived at the airport at around 7:45 am. After waving and greeting the reporters present, he went directly to the VIP lounge.
During his visit to the capital, Lee will meet officials from central government ministries, including those from the Ministry of Finance today. He will also attend signing ceremonies between the Hong Kong Jockey Club and the National Health Commission and the Department of Health on enhancing training for healthcare professionals, as well as implementing local infectious disease prevention and response projects.
The Secretary for Financial Services and the Treasury Christopher Hui and Secretary for Health Lo Chung-mau will accompany Lee on these engagements, along with Director of the Chief Executive's Office Carol Yip.
Lee is expected to return to Hong Kong on Wednesday.
