President Xi Jinping has called for stronger cross-strait integration and exchanges.

Xi on Wednesday participated in a joint group meeting of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) in Beijing. It was attended by political advisors from the Revolutionary Committee of the Chinese Kuomintang (RCCK), along with science and technology as well as environment and resources sectors.

On Taiwan, the president urged the RCCK to unite all patriots from home and abroad, step up opposition against "Taiwan independence" and advance the peaceful reunification of China.

Xi "called for active efforts to promote exchanges and cooperation in fields such as sci-tech development, agriculture, culture and youth development across the Taiwan Strait and deepen cross-Strait integrated development," according to Xinhua News Agency.

CPPCC chairman Wang Huning and another Politburo Standing Committee member, Cai Qi, joined the discussion. (Reporting by Xinhua)
