Hong Kong Island traffic police on Monday arrested a 32-year-old man in Happy Valley on suspicion of carrying passengers in a private car for profit without a hire car permit.

The man had allegedly charged about HK$1,800 to take undercover officers from Happy Valley to Zhuhai on the mainland.

The officers had booked the ride through an online platform.

The man, who was also arrested for driving without third party insurance, has been released on bail and must report back to police next month.
