Police on Friday said that they seized dangerous drugs worth HK$215 million after cracking down on a drug syndicate and arresting five people, including two teenagers.
This came as officers conducted an anti-drug operation between Wednesday and Thursday, seizing 322 litres of suspected liquefied cocaine, one kilo of suspected cocaine, as well as small amounts of suspected crack cocaine, ketamine, and cannabis.
Five people, aged between 18 and 33, were arrested for “trafficking in dangerous drugs".
One of the arrested teenagers is a form six student.
"We have taken a whole-chain approach to this drug trafficking operation and successfully managed to arrest members from different positions in the drug cartel, including the mastermind,” said senior superintendent Chan Kong-ming of the narcotics bureau.
“In addition, we conducted a comprehensive investigation to determine the location of the drug cartel. We don't want to miss anything which might let the drugs reach the markets,” he added.
Meanwhile, the narcotics bureau’s operations superintendent Wilson Tam noted that the suspected liquefied cocaine was disguised and hidden in wine bottles stored at a mini office in an industrial building in Kwai Chung.
The 33-year-old alleged mastermind of the drug ring, who was suspected to have organised the trafficking operation, was arrested in Sham Shui Po. Around HK$550,000 in cash was seized at his vehicle and his flat at Yau Ma Tei.
Police did not rule out the possibility of arresting more suspects, as they again warned teenagers to not get involved in drug schemes to earn “quick money” and “ruin their future”.
