The Correctional Services Department said a 71-year-old man, who was on remand in custody at the Siu Lam Psychiatric Centre, has died in a public hospital.

The department said the man had suffered from hypertension, heart disease and other chronic conditions and that he had been sent to hospital on Sunday after feeling unwell. It said, while there, his condition deteriorated and he was certified dead on Tuesday morning.

The department said the case had been reported to the police and that a death inquest would be held by the Coroner's Court.

It said the man had been remanded for the offence of arson in February 2023.
