President Xi Jinping on Thursday congratulated Indonesia's Prabowo Subianto after his victory in recent presidential elections was officially confirmed, Xinhua news agency reported.
China is one of the biggest sources of foreign direct investment in Indonesia.
Last year, Jakarta inaugurated Southeast Asia's first high-speed rail, a multibillion-dollar project backed by Beijing.
Prabowo and his vice presidential running mate Gibran Rakabuming Raka – eldest son of outgoing leader Joko Widodo – had already declared victory last month after unofficial counts showed them winning a majority.
They were officially confirmed as winners on Wednesday after receiving over 96 million votes, more than 58.6 percent of the total count and enough to secure a first-round majority.
The 72-year-old was widely predicted to win the presidency on his third attempt. He will take over the presidency in October after a transition period. (AFP)
