An estimated 11 million people are expected to travel in and out of Hong Kong during the upcoming Easter and Ching Ming festive period, with the bulk of them crossing at land borders.
The Immigration Department estimated around 9.5 million people would pass through various land control points with Shenzhen.
The department said foot traffic at Lo Wu, Lok Ma Chau and the Hong Kong-Zhuhai- Macao Bridge would be heavy, with a daily average forecast of about 207,000, 169,000 and 143,000 passengers respectively.
The busiest day is expected to be this Friday with more than 600,000 passengers using various land boundary control points.
The department said it has minimised leave for frontline officers to cope with the anticipated heavy traffic during the period. It also said passengers may check the estimated waiting times at each land boundary control point via the department's mobile app before they begin their journey.
Meanwhile, the MTR Corporation said it would enhance services over Easter holidays, adding 300 train trips to meet travelling needs.
