CLP Power said a hill fire in Yuen Long disrupted its electricity supply, leaving people trapped in elevators on Saturday.

The power provider said a voltage dip occurred at 12:28pm in its overhead cable connecting Yuen Long and Lai Chi Kok, but it did not stop its electricity supply.

It added the dip was likely caused by a hill fire around Yuen Long's Shap Pat Heung area.

The Fire Services Department said it received reports of a fire and an explosion in the location at around noon, adding that the voltage dip resulted in at least 52 reports of people being trapped in lifts.

In a statement, the Electrical and Mechanical Services Department (EMSD) instructed CLP Power to submit a report on the supply disruption within four weeks.

The department said the voltage dip affected the supply of power in Kowloon and the New Territories.

The EMSD added it deployed staff to investigate and help release people trapped in the lifts.
