Hong Kong badminton player, Yip Pui-yin, has announced her retirement from sport at the age of 36 after almost two decades on the court.
Yip, who’s represented the SAR at the Olympics, said on Sunday she would instead turn to coaching.
“My career as an athlete is finally coming to an end,” Yip wrote in a social media post on Saturday.
“[I] had experienced many ups and downs. I stood up after falling down, made history for Hong Kong and made a number of achievements.”
She also said she would “teach badminton and nurture the next generation”.
Once ranked eighth in women’s singles, Yip reached the quarter-finals at the 2012 London Olympics — the best performance by a Hong Kong shuttler at the Games.
She is also a two-time Asian Games medallist and the 2009 East Asian Games champion.
