Firefighters rescued 27 hikers who were trapped by a hill fire on Luk Chau on Thursday.

They were taken by boat to Yung Shue Wan Ferry Pier on nearby Lamma Island.

The fire, which broke out just before noon, was put out.

The Government Flying Service helicopters were called in to drop water on the blaze.

Meanwhile, the Fire Services Department urged members of the public not to leave any kindling behind when sweeping graves, saying it had received multiple reports of hill fires in the past few days.
