CLP Power on Saturday said it had recorded a voltage dip in the power supply system in Tuen Mun, with fire officials saying more than 100 people had been trapped in elevators

The electricity company said the voltage dip happened at about 1.30pm, but there was no power interruption.

It said lifts might be suspended and there may be dimming or flickering in lighting systems nearby.

The Fire Services Department, meanwhile, said it received more than 120 reports of people being trapped in lifts between 1.30pm and 2pm.

It added that there were also about 30 cases of fire alarms going off. The department was conducting rescue operations and handling the incidents.

The Electrical and Mechanical Services Department said it had ordered CLP Power to investigate the cause of the incident and hand in a report within a month.

It said according to the information provided by the company, it was suspected that the voltage dip was caused by a malfunction of equipment at the Black Point Power Station.
