A fire that broke out at a construction site on Hung Nga Road in Tin Shui Wai on Tuesday has been largely extinguished, but firefighters are still at the scene as a precaution, officials said on Thursday.
"Although the fire has been largely put out, some firefighters still need to stay on site to prevent it from starting again," deputy chief fire officer Wong King-man told reporters.
"In this No.4 alarm fire, firefighters faced many difficulties. The fire covered a vast area, reaching 70 by 80 metres, which is more than 5,000 square metres. The site was also filled with smoke and the temperature was as high as over 500 degrees," he said.
Some 740 firefighters and ambulance staff had been deployed to tackle the blaze.
No casualties were reported.
The Buildings Department said two cranes at the site were not in imminent danger of collapse.
