Education Secretary Christine Choi said Hong Kong's quality education can attract international talent and boost the city's competitiveness.

During an interview on RTHK's Your Home Address, Choi highlighted the presence of five Hong Kong universities in the top 100 global rankings.

"We have to make good use of these advantages to enhance our competitiveness while attracting more quality talent to Hong Kong," she said.

"We nurture more of our students with [an] international or global perspective and also expand our talent pool."

The lack of language barriers was one of these advantages. Choi said universities taught in English, providing a welcoming learning environment for international students.

She added that students had an opportunity to learn Chinese, enabling them to better connect with the Greater Bay Area.

Choi added that the SAR attracted respected scholars from around the world to teach and carry out research in Hong Kong, further boosting the city's academic standing.

She also said that at the local level, the authorities and schools have worked to enhance students' learning experiences.

They encourage schools to organise overseas trips so students can interact with their peers outside Hong Kong and gain valuable experience through exchange programmes, she said.
