The director of the Hong Kong and Macau Affairs Office, Xia Baolong, began a week-long inspection trip in Macau on Monday.

Xia inspected the construction site of a bridge and met Macau Chief Executive Ho Iat-seng and other officials at Macau Government House.

The Macau SAR Government earlier said Xia would learn more about the latest developments of the SAR's society and its economy.

In a statement, Ho said officials would make necessary arrangements to ensure the success of Xia's inspection trip.

He also said Macau was thankful for the long-standing support and concern of the central government.

Xia visited Hong Kong in February this year, meeting people in various sectors including those in the finance, business and legal professions.
