Police say a sailor has suffered a fractured leg and head injuries after plunging nine metres from a freight container on a cargo ship in Tsing Yi.

The accident happened just before midnight on Thursday.

The sailor, 57, was said to have been conscious when he was taken to Princess Margaret Hospital for treatment.
