The Observatory on Friday said it would issue the strong wind signal number three between 4pm and 6pm, as a tropical depression moves north towards the coast of western Guangdong.
The Observatory said the cyclone would make landfall tonight, or early tomorrow morning, before moving inland, and that Hong Kong would see heavy showers on Saturday.
The standby signal number one was issued at 5.40pm on Thursday.
