The Observatory said on Saturday afternoon that the Strong Wind Signal No 3 would be replaced sometime between 3pm and 6pm.

The forecaster said at noon that Tropical Cyclone Maliksi had weakened into a tropical depression as it passed over Guangdong province.

The Observatory says it will consider issuing either the Standby Signal No 1 or the Strong Monsoon Signal, depending on how Maliksi weakens over inland areas and changes in the local wind conditions.

It added that seas will be rough with swells and members of the public are advised to stay away from the shoreline and not to engage in water sports.

As the Strong Wind Signal No 3 is still in force, classes of kindergartens, schools for children with physical disability and schools for children with intellectual disability are suspended today.
