The Hong Kong Observatory cancelled the Amber Rainstorm Warning Signal at 5:40 am.

It had been issued at 3:25 am, and heavy rain was expected to fall generally over Hong Kong, exceeding 30 millimetres in an hour.

The Observatory had warned that there might be flooding in some low-lying and poorly drained areas.

People who were likely to be affected were advised to take all necessary precautions to reduce their exposure to risk posed by the heavy rain and flooding.

People should stay alert to the danger that may be brought about by river flooding.

The Observatory said people should stay away from watercourses.
