The Chinese University's School of Continuing and Professional Studies on Thursday said the personal information of more than 20,000 students, staff, faculty and visitors has been hacked.
The school said it found out last week that its online learning platform had been breached, compromising data such as names, emails as well as student numbers.
It said it was contacting those affected and that their personal details were not appearing on the dark web.
The Office of the Privacy Commissioner for Personal Data has been notified.
The school added that it is improving cybersecurity to try to prevent a repeat of the incident.
