Heavy rain of up to 100 millimetres an hour was recorded in parts of Tsuen Wan and Yuen Long as bad weather hit the city on Friday.

More than 50 millimetres of rain was recorded in other parts of the New Territories.

The red rainstorm warning was in effect from 10am to 11.30am, before it was downgraded to the amber rainstorm warning.

The Observatory said serious road flooding and traffic congestion could disrupt normal school hours and people should carefully consider the conditions.

The Education Bureau said all afternoon schools have been suspended. It also said morning and whole-day schools that were in session should continue until the end of school hours, and ensure that conditions are safe before allowing students to return home.

Classes of evening schools are expected to proceed as usual.

The Drainage Services Department is calling on members of the public to report any flooding, while the Labour Department said employers should ensure the safety of workers.
