The Airport Authority on Monday afternoon said that the north runway at Chek Lap Kok was up and running again after a cargo plane, that had burst a tyre, was towed away at around 3 pm.

The jet made an emergency landing at around 7:30 am, forcing the closure of the runway for almost eight hours.

Only one runway remained in operation, and around 450 flights were delayed as a result.

Passengers said their itineraries were badly affected, with some complaining that they had missed their onward connections.

The authority said even though both runways had since resumed operation, some flights could still be disrupted as a backlog was being cleared.

It urged passengers to keep tabs on the latest flight information.

Late on Monday evening the Airport Authority said the Airport Express Link would run more frequently after midnight, with the last train to Hong Kong Station departing at 1:30 am.

It also said the airport's Automated People Mover System and customer service counters would stay open until 3 am.
