Four universities in Hong Kong have been ranked among the world’s top 100 institutions in the latest annual global ranking compiled by US News and World Report.
The Chinese University of Hong Kong was rated as the 42nd best university in the world – top in the SAR. The University of Hong Kong followed close behind in the 44th position.
Hong Kong Polytechnic University jumped 33 places from its position last year to 67th – third in the SAR.
PolyU's civil engineering department, meanwhile, was ranked second in the world for that field – behind only Tongji University in Shanghai.
Overall, Harvard University reaffirmed its position as the world's number one institution, while Tsinghua University emerged as China's leading university, ranked 16th in the globe.
US News and World Report's 2024-2025 Best Global Universities Rankings assessed 2,250 institutions worldwide, taking into account various indicators such as academic research performance, global reputation and regional standing.
