Hong Kong and Macau permanent residents who are not Chinese citizens can now apply for a five-year permit to go to the mainland for short-term purposes such as business, tourism and exchanges. Permit holders can travel to the mainland within the five-year validity period, with each stay not exceeding 90 days.

How to Apply?
Step 1: Applicants must first complete an application form on CTS (China Travel Service) Entry Permit Service Hong Kong Limited's website by filling in their personal information and uploading images of their Hong Kong Permanent Resident Identity Card and passport data page.

Step 2: Applicants will receive an email once the pre-application has passed a preliminary review notifying them that they can log into the reservation system to book an appointment from July 10 at a designated service centre.

Step 3: At the scheduled appointment time, applicants must bring all required original copies of the following documents: completed application form with a recent photo, Hong Kong Permanent Resident Identity Card, passport and nationality certificates.

Step 4: At the centre, applicants will have to take a photo at the photo booth, obtain a qualified barcode receipt and a printout of the physical photo.

Step 5: Applicants can then collect an application number at the electronic inquiry counter and wait for their number to be called in the designated waiting area.

Step 6: Applicants can then proceed to their assigned counter to process their application and complete the registration payment. The fee for a first-time application is HK$260. Applicants will then receive an acceptance receipt for when to pick up the permit if the application is successful.

Step 7: Applicants must then go in person with their acceptance receipt to pick up their permit at the electronic acceptance counter within 12 months from the scheduled date of collection.
