Hong Kong shares closed higher on Wednesday.

The Hang Seng Index ended up 209 points, or 1.2 percent, at 17,978.

The Shanghai Composite Index was down 0.5 percent at 2,982, while the smaller Shenzhen index ended down 0.8 percent. (Reuters)
