Hong Kong shares closed lower on Friday.

The Hang Seng Index ended down 228 points, or 1.3 percent, at 17,799.

The Shanghai Composite Index was down 0.3 percent at 2,949, while the smaller Shenzhen index ended up 0.5 percent. (Reuters)
