A large-scale attraction featuring 36 popular animation characters has been installed on the Wan Chai Temporary Promenade, to promote animation development in Hong Kong and support local athletes at the upcoming Olympic Games.
The AniCom Sports Park attraction links iconic local characters from different eras to various sporting events, including Old Master Q playing snooker, Dustykid rowing and Joe from the "City of Darkness" performing wushu.
Alan Wan, vice president of the Hong Kong Comics and Animation Federation, said he hopes the attraction will further promote and develop animation as an art form in the SAR.
"People may not be familiar with our comic or animation characters, but we hope that people will want to take photos with them even if they don't know them. If they want to learn about the character's origin story, we have put QR codes alongside each installation so people can learn about the character and the artist's background," he said.
"We hope to bring joy to people who see our installations. We also hope that through these characters, people can learn more about Hong Kong's animations and comics, which in turn brings more attention to the development of comics and animation in Hong Kong."
The installations will be in place for the next two years.
