A man from Hong Kong has died while climbing Mount Fuji in Japan.
According to Japanese media, the 58-year-old man was found unconscious while climbing the mountain from Yamanashi prefecture on Monday.
He was pronounced dead later.
The Immigration Department said it'd received a request for assistance. It has initiated follow-up actions through the commissioner's office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Hong Kong and the Chinese embassy in Japan.
The department added it has provided appropriate advice and assistance to the family members of the victim.
Japanese media quoted local police as saying this was the first death reported since the opening of the 3,776m mountain to hikers this summer.
