The ICAC on Wednesday said it was investigating suspected corruption involving frontline staff from the Electrical and Mechanical Services Department (EMSD).

The anti-graft body said the case relates to procurement projects under HK$50,000 at public hospitals and possible violations of section 4 of the Prevention of Bribery Ordinance.

Eight people were arrested. They have since been released pending further investigation.

The ICAC added that more than 10 others were interviewed under caution, among them EMSD staff.

In response, the EMSD said it will fully cooperate with the investigation and will not tolerate any illegal acts.

According to section 4 of the Prevention of Bribery Ordinance, government officers must not solicit or accept any advantage as an inducement or reward.
