Hong Kong stocks opened higher on Thursday.

The Hang Seng Index gained 157 points, or 0.9 percent, at 17,629.

Mainland stocks also opened higher, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 0.61 percent at 2,957 and the Shenzhen Component Index putting on 1.19 percent at 8,800. (Additional reporting by Xinhua)
