Hong Kong stocks began Wednesday on a positive note, rising 13 points at the start of trade to 17,741.

On the mainland, Chinese stocks opened lower, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index down 0.18 percent to open at 2,970.

The Shenzhen Component Index also opened 0.18 percent lower. (Xinhua)
