A man from Hong Kong has been arrested in Singapore on suspicion of drug trafficking, SAR police said on Thursday.

The force said it had contacted counterparts in Singapore over suspicions that gangs in Hong Kong were sending people there to smuggle drugs.

On Wednesday, Singaporean officers arrested a 25-year-old man as he was allegedly handing over a box to a logistics company.

SAR police said four kilogrammes of methamphetamine worth around HK$3 million was found inside two statues.

The man was detained pending further investigation, police said.

The Singapore Central Narcotics Bureau said anyone found guilty of trafficking more than 250 grammes of methamphetamine can face the death penalty.
