Hailey Yip and Kelly Yu report from Paris
There was plenty of action at the Olympics in Paris with Siobhan Haughey qualifying as the top seed in the final of the women's 100m freestyle.

Meanwhile, Hong Kong, China now ranks 10th in the medals table with China second in the tally with six golds. Japan maintain their lead at the top of the table with seven gold medals.

Here are some of the highlights on Day 4.

Haughey safely through

Siobhan Haughey's bid for another medal in Paris continued as she placed first in her semi-final to qualify as the top seed with a time of 52.64 seconds.

Some of the other highlights of the swimming at La Defense Arena include Kaylee McKeown defending her Olympic title in the women's 100m backstroke, Daniel Wiffen winning Ireland's first Olympic gold in men's swimming with a victory in the 800m freestyle, and Britain winning the men's 4x200m free relay in a race that featured nine teams instead of the usual eight.

Bronze medal hopes dashed

Doo Hoi-kem and Wong Chun-ting fought hard in the bronze-medal match of the mixed doubles table tennis event, but they weren’t able to make it to the podium.

They lost 0-4 to South Korea’s Shin Yu-bin and Lim Jong-hoon.

Mixed results for HK's shuttlers

Hong Kong, China badminton star Lee Cheuk-yiu made a winning start in his maiden Olympic appearance, beating Mexico's Luis Ramon Garrido in the group stage of the men's singles tournament.

But Lianne Yeung and Yeung Pui-lam failed to advance in the women's doubles.

In their final group match on Tuesday, the SAR duo lost to Liu Shengshu and Tan Ning of China. It was a similar story for Happy Lo who concluded her maiden Olympic journey with consecutive group stage defeats in badminton.

She fell to Supanida Katethong of Thailand in straight games of 14-21, 9-21.

The mixed doubles pair of Tse Ying-suet and Jordan Tang will square off against South Korea's Seo Seung-jae and Chae Yoo-jung in the quarter-finals on Thursday morning, Hong Kong time.

Simone Biles leads America to Olympic glory

In other action, gymnastics superstar Simone Biles inspired the United States to gold in the women's team event while Italy took silver and Brazil got bronze.
