Hong Kong stocks opened higher on Tuesday after being hit by a regional selloff in the previous session.
The Hang Seng Index gained 162 points, or 0.98 percent, at 16,861.
The index closed down 1.5 percent the previous session.
Earlier, Tokyo stocks also bounced back following a record selloff on Monday. The Nikkei 225 index jumped 10.33 percent in early trade, and the Topix index added 10.26 percent.
Overnight on Wall Street, the Dow lost 2.6 percent, the S&P shed 3 percent and the Nasdaq dropped 3.4 percent. (Additional reporting from AFP)
