The registration period for the annual cross-harbour swim opened on Tuesday, with organisers saying up to 4,000 people can take part in the event slated for November 10.

Participants in the leisure and racing groups will swim from Golden Bauhinia Square in Wan Chai to the Avenue of Stars in Tsim Sha Tsui.

Organisers said the theme for this year's event is "Splash and Shine", symbolising the vibrant energy of the swimmers who bring waves of joy to Victoria Harbour.

Interested swimmers have until August 26 to sign up. Organisers say all participants must meet eligibility requirements and pass time trials that will be held in September.
