There was heartbreak for China's women's hockey team after they were beaten in the final by the Netherlands in a shootout, despite leading the defending champions most of the way.

It was China's second silver medal in the sport, equalling their best-ever finish in Beijing in 2008 when they were also defeated by the Dutch.

The Netherlands then laid siege in front of the Chinese goal, but couldn't find the equaliser.

Both sides were unable to score again in regulation, and the match had to be decided by a shootout.
