The Macau government said the SAR's chief executive election will be held on October 13.

On Sunday, voting was held for Election Committee members, with more than 5,500 people choosing 344 out of 348 candidates. Turnout was 88.12 percent.

Macau lawmakers and deputies to the National People's Congress and the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference are among the other 56 Election Committee members.

They form a 400-member Election Committee that will be responsible for nominating and electing the new-term chief executive.

Incumbent Ho Iat-seng has not indicated yet if he will seek re-election.

According to the law, the Macau chief executive must be a Chinese citizen who is a permanent resident of the SAR, at least 40 years old, has ordinarily resided in Macau for a continuous period of 20 years, supports the Basic Law, and is loyal to the People's Republic of China and the Macau SAR.
