Ten thousand flats will be built near the future Pak Shek Kok MTR Station next to Tolo Harbour and the Science Park, the government said on Wednesday.

The new East Rail Line station, between Tai Po Market and University, is expected to be completed by 2033.

A spokesman for the Development Bureau said the MTR Corporation is carrying out extensive technical assessments for the station's construction and land development strategies, with a detailed plan for the project to be announced later this year.

Lawmaker Scott Leung said the MTR station and related transport infrastructure should be built before the residential units.

Leung, who's also a member of the Housing Authority, said this approach would ensure efficient and convenient transport for the residents.
